( this video mural was created by the video artist marco brambilla in 2008 for the new standard hotel in nyc.
the technique is called a “video tableau”, a moving painting with more than 300 individual channels of looped video blended into an expansive landscape that continuously scrolls upward and slowly reveals itself to the viewer, from the depths of hell to the gates of heaven. essentially, it illustrates a contemporary, satirical take on the concepts of eternal punishment and celestial reward.
